The "Nederlandse Woonbond" is the national tenants' association. The aim and purpose of the Woonbond is to take any kind of action which is necessary to guarantee the availability of low-priced good quality houses for tenants, safe neighbourhoods that provide a positive social environment and to encourage strong local organisations of tenants. The "Woonbond" helps everyone who has problems with rental accommodation.The "Woonbond" does not supply houses. If you want to be housed, or to rent a house, you have to apply to the local authorities. The usual name for the relevant department is a "huisvestingsbureau". The "Woonbond" has 750.000 members. There is a national office in Amsterdam. There are also three regional offices, in Amsterdam, Eindhoven and Zwolle.The "Woonbond" is part of the International Union of Tenants (IUT). The IUT comprises about forty organisations from thirty-four countries. |
